Today, one of the biggest causes of mental health conditions such as insomnia, anxiety, depression and even physical health problems is excessive stress. Stress can cause tension and restlessness and coupled with thoughts of worry, make it difficult for sleep to come at night.
It’s not easy letting go of anxious thoughts at night especially if something is bothering us. Trying not to think about something that’s bothering is almost impossible. Having a poor sleep routine can affect your natural sleep cycle negatively. With a sleep cycle in disarray, it’s important to get it back to a normal sleep routine. Having a good sleep routine is a simple way in how you can beat insomnia.
Avoid eating big meals late in the evening and avoid stimulants such as caffeine and alcohol which can disturb sleep. Your bedroom should be free of disturbances such as a noisy alarm clock and be as dark as possible. It’s important that your bedroom is made into a calm and restful place to promote sleep.
